Abstract

The purpose of the article is to problematize the place and role of volunteering in modern societies. Emphasis is placed on the various factors that motivate volunteers and on their role in socio-economic processes. Possibilities for managing and stimulating volunteering at the organizational and national levels are considered. The state of volunteering in Bulgaria and its possible development with a view to the use of its socio-economic potential in the conditions of the growing crisis of the legitimacy of the modern state are also analyzed.
