Abstract

Donald Boudreaux’s article critically examines the rationale behind coercive income redistribution and what he calls the “economics of envy”. He argues that public debates on inequality routinely overlook the fundamental processes that generate prosperity in market economies - voluntary exchange, innovation, entrepreneurial risk‑taking, and value creation. Through 14 probing questions, Boudreaux highlights what he sees as inconsistencies in redistributionist thinking.
