Abstract

The Social Progress Index is one of the new indices being studied at the global level. All EU-27 member states, including Bulgaria, are analysed in this index. The purpose of this report is to study where Bulgaria is in European and global terms. The research is based on the method of comparative analysis. The main conclusion is that while Bulgaria ranks relatively high in the global Social Progress Index, it lags behind the EU-27 member states. The reasons and problems for this outcome are complex. Nevertheless, EU membership itself supports better social integration and cohesion of Bulgaria with the more developed countries at the European and global level.
